Qualification for Team Florida to National Championships:

14U, 16U and Junior National Duals (Men & Women)

The “Father Devine Tournament'' serves as the direct qualifier for all Team Florida National Dual teams.

How to qualify for one of Team Florida’s National Dual Teams:

• Win both Freestyle and Greco Roman at the Father Devine Championships AND meet all deadlines for deposits and any other Team requirements as outlined by the Team Leader and National Teams Director.

• Spots not filled by a winner of BOTH styles will be filled as follows:

  • If both winners of each style wish to go, they will both be given the opportunity to go to the duals as the starter in the style they won only.

  • If only one of the winners chooses to go, then the Team Leader and State Teams Director select a team member from one of the following. These are not in priority order

    •  winner of the one style

    • A lower place winner in the style

    • A petitioner who was unable for good reason (as determined by the Team Leader and State Teams Director) to compete in the Father Devine Tournament. (see petition process below)

The 16U and Junior (18U) F.A.W.A. Freestyle/Greco State Championships is our Team Florida qualifier for the 2024 U.S. Marines Corp Junior and 16U Nationals - commonly known as “FARGO” 

How to Qualify?

• Finish in the top 3  in either Freestyle or Greco-Roman at FAWA State Championships. 

• NOTE: Whatever weight and style in which you qualify, is the weight and style you will be expected to compete at. If you need to change weights, you can do so only with permission of the Team Leader, in consultation with the state teams Director. That will only happen if we have an open spot in that weight.

NOTE: If you only qualify in one style, there must be room in your weight class on the Fargo team to compete in the other style.

*In terms of team selection; a double style Top 3 placer > a single style Top 3 placer

If you do not attend or place Top 3 at the FAWA State Championship as noted above, you can qualify yourself through any of the below listed ways. All qualification outside of the FAWA State Championships is dependent on having available spots left on the roster for Team Florida. All final decisions will be made by State Teams leaders and National Team's Director.

1. Place in the top 6 at any 2024 USAW Regional Tournament or U15 Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals. 

2. Place in the top 8 at the 2023

• U15 Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals

• UWW Cadet Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals

• UWW Junior Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals

• Previous Year 16U Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals

• Previous Year Junior Nationals, but only in the Style(s) in which you qualify. You can change weight class at Nationals

3. Petition to be placed on the team (See petition process below)

Petition Process*

• You must have an active USAW Membership Card

• Write an email to the National Teams Director who will consult with the team leader of the team onto which you wish to be placed. 

• Must register for the tournament you're petitioning for and pay entry fees for the tournament to be eligible, no matter what the reasoning for the petition. There will be no refunds of these fees, and you are not guaranteed a spot because you petitioned. 

• Include ALL the following in your email

  • Name

  • School / Club

  • Phone Number

  • Weight Class(es) you are willing to compete at

  • USA Wrestling Card #

  • Reason for missing the Father Devine Tournament if you are looking to get on a Dual Team 

  • Reason for missing all the possible qualifying events for Fargo as listed above.

Team Florida will make all final selections in regards to National Teams. We have limited spots available for these trips and not all who are eligible will be able to go. 

Only F.A.W.A. can register our teams for any of the above national trips. Anyone who wants to be a part of any team, will be asked to register through F.A.W.A. at an appropriate time.
